If you are sure there is no break or dislocation, it's probably a soft tissue injury, which are very painful and very slow to heal. Try rotating ice and wet heat on the injury when her will allow it, (30 min each, then 2 hours off) and have her move her ankle around so the joint doesn't freeze up while healing. The ice will help whatever swelling she may experience, and the heat will soothe and draw the blood into the area to help healing. Some soft tissue injuries take longer to heal completely than breaks do. Poor baby.

It could be a deep bruise tissues close to the bone, there's not much body fat there. If she's not able to tolerate a little standing pressure on it within a week, then get it re-xrayed. I broke my foot slipping on ice and walked around 4 months with it hurting, first xray showed nothing, 2nd one at 4 months clearly showed the break!
Keep her off it as much as possible, elevate it. does touching it with your hands hurt? Maybe try a little massage, at this point ice isn't that beneficial so try moist heat, childrens advil and if not better by next Monday call the dr back and take her in again.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

It could be tendons or ligaments. She may be OK in a few weeks, but keep an eye on it if she starts to complain again. She may need a brace to hold in in place when she's outside climbing around and stuff. Ankles can be tricky. If she happened turn twist it and pop it . It 's called something herniated I don't remeber. Get a second opinion.

If there isn't a fracture or a break, she might have just sprained her ankle. Check her temperature regularly, if she runs a fever, it could be something serious, like a break or fracture. Sometimes fractures are hard to see the first time around.

In a mean time, put ice pack on, around her ankle. Do not leave on too long, give her a break in between (30 sec on, couple minutes off. Try to do as many as you can).
