I want to go on birth control, however, I'm very concerned with the weight gain. I'm currently excellent at keeping my calories in check (1400-1800 a day) and running 4-5x a week. If I keep doing this, will I still gain weight from the pill? I know it depends on the person...any of you have personal experiences with this?

I have not gained any weight due to the pill. You simply need to continue to exercise self control and you won't gain weight. The only birth control method proven to cause weight gain is the depo-provera shot. The idea that the pill causes weight gain is a myth. The reasons behind this myth is that every woman during her teens and early to mid twenties will gain weight due to the puberty and the end of puberty. This is typically when women start oral contraceptives but, even women who do not take the pill gain weight around this age.

I wouldn't worry about the weight gain, if there is any. I used to attribute my 20 lb weight gain over the past three years to the pill, then I just realized I wasn't exercising. I've been on a regimen very similar to yours since July and I am now down to my pre-pill weight of 142 and still losing. The pill is worth it in my opinion if you are having a lot of sex or have very heavy periods. I don't trust 'the shot' or any of the other stuff they have out right now.

Beleive it or not, I actually lost weight while on the pill. If you do gain weight it will probably be minimal. You seem to keep control of your intake and exercise so don't worry too much. Just keep you eyes open for any changes in weight and address them ASAP. The benefits of being on the pill are enormous so if your current brand is unsatisfactory (you gain weight, nausea, bloating, etc), ask your doctor to try different brand. There are many formulas and I'm sure one will work for you

Some pills make you gain weight bcause they have strogens and progestagens combined, in high doses. They work in an hormonal level and makes you to store more water in your body and so on. However nowadays there are new drugs, the most of them made with microdoses of progestagens that are unlikely to produce this nasty side effect (as a matter of fact, one of them, desogestrel (Yazmin is the brand name I guess) makes you to loose weight!!), so when you go to your doctor talk with him/her about your concern and for sure you will get the best oral contraceptive for your needs
Good luck
