no styrofoam??? aww that ruins some of the fun! i love crafty projects tho. okay you can use bakeable clay. it comes in a variety of colors and can be molded into many shapes. i would suggest working from the inside out and making it into a circle with a pie shaped cutout in it so you can see inside. basically you would make the clay figure and then bake it. you can spray it with a glossy finish and tadaa! oh, and to hang it from the ceiling? i guess you would need to screw in a metal hook beforehand. good luck!!

Get a wire coathanger, 1 piece of 11'" x 17"construction paper, yarn, different shapes of pasta or candy (red hots for mitochondria, green jelly beans for chloroplasts, sprinkles for ribosomes, twizzlers for ER, mini marshmallows for the vacuoloes etc.) use your imagination and a lot of glue. You can put a contrasting color of yarn around the edge to define the cell membrane, if you're doing a plant cell, two different colors will show the cell wall and cell membrane. You can create a key with one piece of candy or pasta over on the side of the paper, labelled with the cell organelle. Use a hole punch and yarn or heavy duty string to attach the paper to the hanger. Use more than three pieces of string for stability and strength. You might even put some masking tape on the paper before you punch the hole in it.
