You can get scammed on a money order if they charge you extra for it! US Bank charges, I believe, like five dollars per money order! THAT is a damn rip-off!

No, you don't have to give cash for a money order that you print on your own color printer. They are called counterfeit money orders and they are a prime means of scamming people.,

The recipient deposits a counterfeit money order. The bank seems to ok it. The later they discover it is no good. They take money from your account. You are out the merchandise or service that you sold and you lose the money that you thought you recieved but actually, lost.

Here is what happens...you buy, it gets lost in the mail (or someone says) you go back to where you purchased, they say "tracers, tracking," etc. The company you intended to pay, says late, default, need our money, where is it ? You have to go to pocket to pay, takes you 3 months to reconcile with money order seller. Had it happen to me twice. Get set up for on line bill payment.

The buyer of the money order could claim that it is being lost or stolen. If it hasn't been cahsed, the issuer can cancel it.
