Do you think it is a choice? What do you do to make that happen?

I found an interesting set of articles today that helped me get to thinking. Google Steve Pavlina, discipline, and you should find them. They say that the keep to happiness is self-esteem which results from discipline.

The same way you choose not to be happy. You can't control or change other people or many events or situations dealt you. But you can change or choose how you react. Most of us are unhappy when we can't accept that we cannot change or control people and events that we feel effect us negatively. Acceptance is key. If you think about this you may just see that the cause of much unhappiness is the result of unsuccessfully trying to force our will on people and situations to no avail. Perhaps what your will and want is, isn't what you need, or what is best for you and others in the first place. Accept and move on, live your life with no regrets, deal with issues if and when they arise, not sooner or later. Shed resentment as soon as you feel it. Don't allow hurtful people to live rent free in your head.
( A wise person once said to me "resentment is like taking poison every day and expecting the other person to die", it only makes YOU sicker ) Sometimes only by giving up trying to control all else, do you gain control of your own happiness. I'm not overly religious, but this Serenity prayer says it all:
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference"
Happiness is a choice, work towards acceptance and serenity, work on changing only yourself, find optomisim where you can, and live your life with grace and dignity. Then you will start to see change and find happiness in yourself, and others will follow.
And if all else fails, resort to prozac.........!

it IS a choice in fact every thing in life has choices and consequences that will lead you to be either FEEL happy or sad and what EVER CHOICE YOU MAKE YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW YOU WILL FEEL!

EXAMPLE
abusing drugs and alcohol
not being honest with yourself and others

everything you do makes you feel a certain way positive things will bring positive results we cant blame anyone but ourselves for not being happy!

although I must say I struggle with depression so what do I know lol Im working at myself to be happy with what has happened in my life and bottom line
IF YOU ARE UNHAPPY YOU ALWAYS HAVE THE CHOICE FOR CHANGE TELL YOURSELF THAT YOU DONT LIKE YOU STATE OF MIND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU KNOW WILL MAKE YOU FEEL BVETTER ABOUT YOURSELF YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!

Its sort of hard to decide to be happy, but i belive u should just forget about it watch some tv or something, something funny or something your really into and u'll forget about being happy and you adjust and become happy because naturally thats what people are.

Also try inviting friends over and go party or talk about person things. What ever you want to do and its a mental thing you must to get about it and let it come to you. Sometimes its hard for people, but when you forget about the spectators and forget about the problem and you just do what you gotta do and u don't really think about it, it comes out great. Being happy is mental and revolves in the inside. Just try to have fun, do something you like and the happiness will come to you :)

Being happy for me is waking in the morning and think positively about the things that need to be done. I feel happy just tobe alive, there are so many people with terrible illnesses and I thank God all I have is epilepsy. I think of my family that always make me feel happy. I personally think happiness is contagious, wear a smile on your face it works wonders.

It can be a choice, think about what is good in your life, what could be worse etc. What you are thankful for. Even when you think you have it bad, there are others much worse off. Be thankful and enjoy the moment each day. One day at time.

yes you are right. being happy is a choice. in fact everything you do in life is a choice like losing weight, quiting smoking both are just a choice. all you need is integrity.

It's not a choice, its a realization of the fact that only you affect your emotional state. No one can make happy or sad, glad or mad.

there are two kinds of hapiness in life one is relative hapines and the other one is absolute hapiness, relative hapiness is surrounded around us and the absolute hapiness is with in us, if u depend on the others for hapiness u will nto be able to be happy anytime in this world, for u to become truly happy u need to tap out ure own potential and seek the absolute hapiness which lies within u...thank u, for giving me this oppurtunity to write to u
