No matter how much you like a person you met online, or how friendly they MIGHT seem you should always becareful
I'm not saying DONT go but just be smart
Make sure you go to public spaces with him, never to his private home. Don't let him know where you live (at least not yet). Tell a friend where you are going and ask to check in after a little while.
I'm not saying he's a bad guy but the web is very easy to hide your true personality so do what you need to protect yourself.

Don't go alone.
The most important thing when meeting in the flesh that you have been talking to online. You bring friends, and the other brings friends, and you all have drinks together and a social chat in a public place. Safety is No.1.

MEET IN A PUBLIC PLACE AND HAVE SOMEONE WITH YOU THAT YOU CAN CHECK IN WITH
PLEASE BE SAFE !!! Never go to someone's house or a friends house. Always be in a restaurant, bar, store, mall, whatever. Just be sure there is a lot of people around.
Better to be safe than sorry. If he is really a nice guy, he will respect you protecting yourself.

Meet in a public place where there will be many people around. Do not get in his car with him, if you change locations, drive separately. Be cautious - he may be nice online but wait to get to know him in person before you trust him.

bring a friend a long as back up just in cause he is a freak (hope he isnt) that way he is less likely to do some thing. if every thing is ok ur friend can leave if she wants. Good luck though
