Let each coat dry and start from root to tip. You can also wiggle your brush as you go outwards. Like someone said above... there is no specific way. It's what you like best. Just play with it. Oh and you can try curling your lashes before you apply your mascara to really make your eyes stand out.

depends on the effect you want the lashes to go and how thick or long you want.. basically start off with a curler without anything on the when your ready choose a white or clear base first to style them the way you want them to look like before putting on the mascara use the wand and twirl it in between yoru fingers so its like your giving it a rolling efffect sweeping upward and outword just don't flick it and hit the tips start from the bottom and slowly twirl the wond upwards and either keep it straight or have it go9ing out to the sides. make sure you get the little ones in the corner of the eye i find the regular brushes won't do it so buy yourself a small wand for just that puprose they sell that just for the tiny corners. its more work but will look nicer when completed as its smoother finnish and not just dabs of mascara here and there you want a perfect look at the end result.. if you want them thicker let the first coating dry then go back to fluff them up again this will make them more coated .

first put a very light dusting of face powder on the lashes for it makes the mascara adhere ,will stick better and prevents clumping then put the mascara on, sweep upward from the roots for this sweeping upward also curls the lashes a bit unless you have sensitive eyes I suggest the no-smear no run waterproof mascara Also the have really WOW Lashes several coats are required but use a lash comb in between for this also avoids clumping then lastly again a very light dusting and comb-this avoids racoon eyes I'd invest in L'oreal, Lancome or Eliz.Arden the better brand mascaras available at better stores,Macy;s,Bloomingdales for they also contain conditioning aagents although L'Oreal is good too-found in most drug stores. Be sure to also invest in a non-dying Mascara Remover and never lease on when going to bed for eventually you'll lose eyelash here and there, also get brittle and break. After you take off mascara put a little dab of olive oil or Vitamin E-Oil on to keep them conditioned.

Get a eyelash curler blast it for about 3seconds with a hairdryer and curl each lash for about 10seconds twice

Hold the brush with the base of your lash line, wiggle the brush on base of your lashes. I do about 5 wiggles and then start to wiggle the brush up your lashes once you get to about the middle of lashes start to bring the wand up thru the rest of your lashes.

Now to get the inner corners of my top lashes I hold the wand vertical and do an up motion and bring it thru the lashes

do a nother coat on the top lashes

Now to get those bottom lashes. I hold the wand and wiggle the brush on the lashes. I usually do just one coat on my bottom lashes

At times between coats or while applying a coat you might want to feather out your lashes. I like to use a cleaned mascara wand or you can buy a brow/lash brush. One that has full but separated bristles works best.

tip..Take your time when you first start and never apply the mascara loooking up but look down into a mirror.

Actually, mascara was made to "roll on" ;you apply the mascara wand to the root of the eyelashes and rather wiggle it and roll the wand as you stroke up. Then go back and repeat the process a second time. You can do the bottom lashes by going lightly from side to side with the wand.

From personal experience, from a sleep-deprived fashionista, here is the proper way to put on masscara: put it on only on the top lashes, never on the bottom because then it will smudge and form dark circles under the eyes. Only celebreties can put it on the bottom, because they have professional make-up artists that most of us don't. Start at the base of your top lash, and bring the masscara "comb" foreward. Wait till the first coat of mascarra dries. Then apply a second coat. Avoid putting on too many coats or you get clumping.

I always start at the root and brush out and up for a curl, but there is no "proper" way. To each her own!
