UMMM AWESOME QUESTION! I TEND TO PONDER ABOUT THIS AS WELL. The decoration gods have just notified me about the times and dates of the decor of Christmas. They are as follows:

I put the lights up on the bushes and my boyfriend put them up around the house last week. Had some sunny days. Better now, than when the snow flies. I usually put the tree up the second week of December, I like it up for a while so I can enjoy the lights and decorations too. Christmas is here and gone so fast, It's almost a shame. So I leave everything up until after Jan 2. If the weather is real bad out, the outside lights stay up a little longer, but so what, huh? They are pretty.

It does depend on when you want. I have seen people put up their decorations even before Thanksgiving, because there are usually "Festival of Lights" around certain neighborhoods, and they usually take place before Thanksgiving or one day after it.
I personally have put decorations up, before and after Thanksgiving, and even in the first week of December. I guess it just depends.

depends on if your decorations are real or not. will you be using real greens? if they are fake i prefer the day after thanksgiving, but if they are real they probably will not look good for more than a few weeks so you may want to wait until the 2nd week in dec (if you keep them up until new years)

we started early this year b/c my baby brother is coming home from Japan and we wanted the decorations up so he could see them. but we usually put them up the day after Thanksgiving
