The landlord has every right to protect his property. Also, many places have restrictions on outbuildings, so it may not be him being a butthead. He may only be trying to prevent legal actions coming his way. Also, many places not demand a building permit even on small sheds. I know here where I live at they demand a building permit on anything over $500, anything that has a roof, and anything that has a door. A shed would have at meet at least two of those criteria. And without a permit before construction the county can fine you every month for as long as it is up.

suggest visiting Lowes and asking for a book on yard structures.
You might also do a web search for "building a shed."

Depending on where you live...Menards, Home Depot, Fleet Farm....actually it is much cheeper to buy a already made shed in the long run...

lowes has a very good help your self library and also some plans to buy they have both a free site and ones to buy both are good
