I believe they're actually separate, but equal on how dangerous they are.
This year, in the same week, one of the football players at my children's school attempted a tackle from behind during practice. When he jumped to tackle, he got kicked in the mouth and bit through his lip. Yes, he was wearing a helmet. Later in the week, my daughter was basing a stunt. The flier came down and elbowed her in the face. She was millimeters from biting entirely through her lip.
This past summer, a football player in the south died from heat stroke. Last school year, a cheerleader in New England died from internal injuries when she was caught incorrectly.
The news likes to sensationalize misfortune when it happens a few times in a row. Not too long ago, baseball was dangerous because of the speed a ball leaves an aluminum bat.

In my opinion Rugby would be the more dangerous of the two. Not to put you off or anything but some people have died in freak accidents in rugby take one of my great, great uncles he was an All Black some when in the late 1800s he was tackled in the air and landed on his neck. He died later in hospital. But I'm pretty sure football has had some freak accidents is well. But now on an more positive side If you run hard, tackle hard and think hard in rugby you will increase your chance of NOT getting injured as gos with the same with many other sports. It would be great if you tried out for your schools rugby team. In rugby always think positive and you would (I think) make a great rugby player and possibly a captain. Also It might depend on how much experience you have and how big you are, how quick and how skillfull. For example you would be a halfback if you were the smallest in the team or possibly a winger (But i know some people that were the small and are amazing rugby players. You should take my mate Brendon for example hes alot smaller than me but he is a great Openside Flanker Hope this answer helped Eli Jones PS: Tackles in the air are ILLEGAL so dont get to worryed about that mate

Any time you throw someone up in the air, there is a very strong possiblity of that person NOT getting caught on the way down, and then falling on their head, breaking their neck. Yes, cheerleading is a lot more dangerous than football.
Cheerleaders wear NO protection. Do very complex and difficult stunts, and when they are no longer in school, there is no career demands for former cheerleaders. Football players go into a variety of careers afterwards.

Cheerleaders always run the risk of slipping falling on their heads, or kicking someone else in the face, that sort of thing. Football players have helmets and are so padded up they can barely move.
Also, as far as the myth about a dog's mouths being cleaner than a human's, that one's pretty simple. DOGS LICK THEIR ASSES.

before this year i would have said no... but im sorry i have 2 say yes! Its dangerous for everyone involved
the flier: has the chance of being dropped, not being caught, falling from incredibly high positions being help up by only 2-3 other girls
bases/backspot: has the chance of the flier landing on them which hurts (and sends u to the hospital)
And we do NOT just jump around! we jump its true but we are thrown 20 feet into the air for a basket toss and are doing pendulums wheere u are thrown backwards and pushed back up!
cheerleading is very dangerous

ya of course its not true. little anarexic girls flying in the air and land and break their neck or other parts but this still, although severe is rare. Football is 200-300 pound men ramming themselves agaisnt one and otehr and injures are very common almost unavoidable.
