It was a conspiracy between the CIA, the mob and possibly some rogue Cubans although the latter is unlikely. The CIA wanted Kennedy dead because he was going to end the Vietnam war and they couldn't have that. The mob wanted him dead because his brother Bobby - the Attorney General - was out to break the back of the mob. There is no way Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone - he was a patsy. And let's not forget the infamous "grassy knoll." If you look at films of that day, everyone is pointing to the knoll and looking that way - not to the Schoolbook Despository. And, Kennedy's head is seen to jerk backwards which is what it would do if there was a shot from the front. Oswald probably hit him first - the non-fatal first shot.
Speculation has it that the person who fired that fatal shot that blew out the back of Kennedy's head was in the employ of the mob and was an assassin from France, but who knows?
