You should be able to read and understand, but reading Grant Morrison's X-Men work would help. There might be a couple things, such as the relationship between Cyclops and Emma Frost, that might confuse without having read Morrison's work. It's a fairly stand-alone piece though, and a great read!

Like both of these people said Morrison's run on the previous Xtitle is not neccicary, but will help clear up some of the relationship issues with Scott and Emma. Both of Whedon's runs are "Astonishing"!

Yes, it's pretty much a standalone series. Some of the general backstory comes from earlier X-men issues.

that's yet yet another X-adult men revamp. Or extremely, yet another sequence. that's seen as a continuation with the aid of fact it has the comparable characters. even with the undeniable fact that it has new writers, new sort, and new artists. So i don't experience that they are portion of the comparable sequence. And no, you do no longer might desire to ascertain New X-adult men to get stunning. that's somewhat hassle-free to understand without sounding like a cleansing soap opera recap (ie. "OMG, did you basically stab by brother in the day previous to this's episode? i won't be able to have faith you basically stabbed my brother in the day previous to this's episode!" that's greater like "How... how are you alive? it won't be able to be you. I scattered your ashes myself!")
