I think a good storyline or plot is important. It should include teamplay and strategy, but not be overly complicated. Combat should be sporadic, not just where you mow down hundreds of creatures or opponents. There should be some minor puzzle solving.

Just look at Morrowind Elder Scrolls, its a great game, great graphics. The Gameplay is awesome, with many missions. You can go off of teh main Missions for the game and do different less important ones. Morrowinds map is huge. you can spend days just trying to explore the whole map. You have freedom to do watever u want. You can get new weapons and armor and spells. its an awesome game. Ive been playin it for like 6 months and i still havent beaten it. Its got a storyline that most people would enjoy also. you can personalize this game soo much you wouldnt believe. Great game

I have always believed that the best RPGs are really just great Sci-Fi books in video game form. An innovative battle system never hurt either.

I would say a good storyline. If there's not a good storyline to keep someone hooked they're just going to leave of boredom, it also has to be moderatly long. I hate short games!
But graphics also do play a part. I don't want to play a game that has crappy graphics, I want to see things crystal clear.
