It depends. You could take advertising, graphic design or visual merchandising.
In advertising, the realms of imagination, commerce and technology come together. The images and words depicted - created by marketing experts, advertising planners, copywriters, artists, salespeople, designers and printers, among others - are chosen for their ability to communicate a specific message.
Display design is more than the creative use of walls, floors, mannequins, props and signs - it's the successful relationship between ideas and objects in a given space. From shopping bags and store-wide promotional events to stage sets and gallery exhibitions, the display design form mixes merchandise, lighting, fixtures and graphics to best convey a desired merchandising concept.

Publicity, Graphic Design, Industrial Design.
Do you want to design the cards, bags, etc. as items or just the graphic content on items?
If you want to design the item itself you need to be an Industrial Designer.
If you want to give an item some "esthetic" look you need to know about Graphic Design.
If you want to do the "esthetic" improvement in order to sell or promote other product with that item you need to be a Publicist.
