It tests chromosomal abnormalities, I know that, but what else does it test? Did you have it? If so- why did you or why didnt you decide to have it done?

During pregnancy, elevated levels of AFP are associated with neural tube defects. Decreased levels may indicate an increased risk of having a baby with Down's syndrome. Abnormal levels of AFP are typically followed up with an Ultrasound and an amniocentesis. Test results may be abnormal in persons with diabetes, multiple pregnancies or obesity.

if you are over 35 the test will come back false positive. according to the mayo cloinic the test comes back false- whether negative or positive- 80% of the time! i never take the test cuz i would never abort so...
