I work for a very successful attorney. He is one of the most arrogant people I've ever met in my life - but he pays me GREAT. I mostly work at home doing billing, but when my husband schedule allows, I go into the office for a few hours a week. He is married and his wife doesn't work and they have an 8 year old.
I spend my days calling to find massage places that offer a shower afterwards (he doesn't like feeling oily), finding places that his daughter can have private tennis lessons on specific days and times, calling his house maid and complaining that she didn't clean the master bath good enough. This afternoon I got an email from him asking me to get Hanukah wrapping paper.
I HATE doing these things for myself, never mind for someone else. Does anyone else do crap like this? Or maybe I'm just not used to doing this kind of work for someone else? Or maybe because he is just arrogant? Should I just suck it up and think about my upcoming paycheck when I get annoyed?

It may not be the job your applied for, but the money is. Nothing your write is illegal or immoral - presuming he and not the company is paying your salary. If you report him to the company, you get sacked and he will get his fanny tapped.
You do the same thing - do you think the grocery stocker likes turning the cereal back around after you studied the back? How about the retail clerk who has to refold the shirt you held up to hubby?
In our own way, each of us inconveniences others. When it becomes intolerable, we need to move on. I know, I used to have to pick up bulletins in the pews after preaching at 3 services.

I guess it depends on how much you need that paycheck. I would just do it, but in the meantime look for work elsewhere that might pay the same. But that's me and I could use a job right now because we don't have an income right now. You need to think about paying the bills. I'd find something else, and then when the opportunity is right, leave him.

Paying you great is where its at! Why care what you do if the pay is the same per hour? I have always told my kids, when your at a job and there is nothing else to do, look around and find something to do. You are getting paid by the hour so stay busy. If its picking up a broom and sweeping, so what, earn your money. There is always someone else to take that job if you don't want it.

None of those tasks, with the possible exception of setting up massage appointments are demeaning or beyond the scope of what a personal assistant to a busy businessman would be expected to do.
He pays you a good wage for doing those things, if you don't find it worth the money you can quit. I am certain if you tell him you aren't interested in doing those things you'll be looking for a new job.

Yes he is arrogant, but he likes they way you work for him. If you are not ready to go looking for another job, possibly work for less, suck it up and appreciate the good aspects of your job. There are a lot of underemployed people in the legal profession who would jump at the chance to be in your shoes. Good Luck.

That's what a job is. If he's paying you "GREAT," just go along with it. I'll tell you what, I'd MUCH rather do stuff like that for someone than being stuck in an office building or something all day.

You say you work for him, but you neglected to tell us what your position is. If you're supposed to be a receptionist, then he's misusing you. If you're supposed to be a law clerk, then he's misusing you. But if you're supposed to be his assistant... that's another story.
I think you need to rethink your whole idea about what your job description is. Then weigh the sense of wrongness you feel against the money.

Wow. I have a Paralegal Certificate and can't find work. Maybe that's a blessing in disguise now that I hear this story.

Just be thankful he hasn't told you to go trap the stupid raccoons that got into his home garage! When you are down to doing that stuff then you know you are earning your pay.
