Flys are attracted to light because sometimes their body(ies) aren't capable of giving off enough heat for the single organism so it tries to find heat to use else where. In this case else where is said light.

It is the light.
I don't know why, but I won't complain. That's how I kill the occasional rogue fly that buzzes around me at night. I get up, turn on the bathroom light, wait on the little bugger to come in, and close the door. The room is white and they can't get away. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

I've always wondered that. Strange thing is, that they still fly around the lampshade when the light is turned off!

flys get food from animals, warm animals. so evolution eventially gave them the instinct to find things that are hot.

light bulbs are hot, flys go to them. in a no human world, there would be no lights, so this adaptation would work, but there are, so it is slowly being removed from the fly population.

i think thats macro evolution. either that or micro, i keep forgetting.
