Back in the hippy days, pot was kept in glass jars a lot of the time. A lid was literally how much would fit into the lid of the jar. It does not necessarily mean an ounce.

I guess you gotta be an old guy to know this one. Well, it's a variance of an '60's black slang term. Back then, pot was pretty cheap, so an ounce or so was not considered much at all. If a brother had about that much in a baggie, he'd say "I only got a liddle." (little). This was shortened over the years to: "I only got a lid' man."

the history of the "lid" began long ago when pot was very cheap. Technically a lid is one sandwhich bag full with the flap thing folded closed.
