I want to clear this up: by 'gay' movie, I mean movies about homosexual relationships, that's not meant to be an offense.

A tie between Better Than Chocolate and If These Walls Could Talk 2. Better Than Chocolate is a feel-good film while still addressing every serious issue, being sweet, funny, and haing lovely supporting characters that you want to cheer on. Fantastic soundtrack, too. It's the best lesbian/queer movie I can think of. If These Walls Could Talk 2 is segmented and not really 'movie' format, but it's the best, most true-to-life representation of lesbianism I've ever seen, with big-name stars I love to watch.

As for gay male movies, I haven't seen nearly as many as I'd like, but Trick is sweet and romantic (plus you can't beat Christian Campbell), and Latter Days is fantastic in tackling the big issues.

Well right off I would say Deathtrap (1982) starring Christopher Reeve and Michael Caine. Its a really twisted murder mystery that just happens to include a couple of gay relationships in the mix. See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083806/

But I would also consider Rocky Horror if it qualifies. Simply one of the most innovative films of all time, and one truly deserving of its cult status. See

If you're talking a movie that concentrates on a gay relationship - The Birdcage (1996) is excellent, a truly great movie, with a truly great cast. And much more mainstream than the above two. See

"Brokeback Mountain." I'm surprised no one has brought it up already!

I adore this movie for a variety of reasons. For one, two young men in love is a fundamentally beautiful thing. The scenery is breathtaking, the cinematography is amazing, and the soundtrack is wonderful as well.

Ang Lee also did a fantastic job juxtaposing all this beauty next to ugliness - the ugliness of deceit, the ugliness of cowardice, the ugliness of loneliness, and the ugliness of violence.

It's a movie that gets sadder every time I watch it. I guess it also means something personal to me because I lived in Wyoming for a year and met someone special there, to whom I had to say goodbye when I moved away for work. Sigh.

I should also mention that Jake Gyllenhaal is simply adorable as Jack Twist - at least up until the point he grows that awful moustache.

:)

The Bird Cage. The relationship of acceptance between Nathan Lane and Robin Williams is wonderful. Their tenderness and love for one another is sweet. Also, it is a hilarious movie. I fall in love with the house boy everytime I see the movie. I also think the guy who plays William's straight son is beautiful.

Latter Days....deals with coming out in repressive environment

At Home At End of The World....deals with bisexuality, love and friendship

Girls Will Be Girls....campy fun, not for the teen sensibilities, too over their heads

The Children's Hour....oldie, and gay is never mentioned, but its about viciousness of homophobic people, when two friends are accused of being lesbians and have their lives destroyed by hate!

I would have to say "Trick" is my favorite gay movie, possibly followed by "Breakfast on Pluto". Trick remains my favorite, because it is devoid of politics or other themes. It is simply a feel good film ( and boy could John Paul Pitoc do that ) about two gay young men, and their attempt at getting together.

I love a little movie titled "The Sum of Us"

It's a funny and touching story of the relationship between a young gay man and his father....both struggling to find love and to love and support each other.

Too Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar! It was hilarious and Patrick,Wesley, and John did an excellent job playing women. I love the part when the abusive husband by surprise learn that Patrick Swayze is a man and Patrick let him have it! They really put the women in that town into shape!
