I was taught in elementary school that it was for $26. I'm not sure whose dollars they were, since the U.S. didn't exist yet, much less have dollars, but that's what I was taught. I learned that in about 1964, when I was 9.

The equivalent of $108.00 in today's money. When I was in school it was $26.00.
