Batting average (BA) is defined as the ratio of hits to at bats.

Hits (H) are defined as when the batter safely reaches first base after hitting the ball into fair territory, without the benefit of an error or a fielder's choice.

At Bats (AB) are recorded every time he faces a pitcher (plate appearances (PA), minus:

- number of base on balls (BB)
- number hit by a pitch (HBP).
- number of sacrifice hits (SAC)
- number of catcher interference
- number of times inning ends with player still at bat (like with a pick-off at first base)
- number of times player is replaced before two strikes on him (or with two strikes, but replacement does not strike out).

BA = H/AB

i think it is how many times u hit the ball out of all the times u get a chance
so like
.345
would be a great batting average
and
.123
would be bad
