It is attention-getting, but it will matter more what you do with it. But not a bad start.
modify) Of course, because the reader will know that this is a retrospective look back, you'll have to work to find a good suspense point to break each issue or chapter. (Look on this as an opportunity to improve your writing.)

Yay! It seems so cute! I can picture the cover being a cracked mirror leaning against a wall, with old stuff [like what would be in an attic] piled around the base of it with a blurred reflection of a little girl in it. ^-^
