Well, we had to get up and actually turn the knob on the television when we wanted to turn the channel, or turn it off and on. We had to stay HOME and talk on the phone, and it was in just one area of the house, and you had to be careful of what you said, as there were other people on the line (party line) who could pick up their phone and listen to your conversation. we had to use a key to unlock our car door, and to start the thing with.. imagine that! We wore jeans that had no holes, shoes that had no blades to rollerskate, and carried our books in our own arms.. ugh! We ate cafeteria food at school, because that's all there was TO eat at school, and we walked to get there instead of having friends who drove a Lexus. Looking back, I don't see how we ever survived! LOL Good question, honey! :) BTW, I am not a grandpa... I'm a grandMA.

Grandma here...Gas was 29 cents a gallon, minimum wage was 1.25 and you could buy a home for $10,000. Most women were stay at home Mom's, clothes were hung out on a clothesline, kids bathed twice a week, you played outside till dark and came home without a cell phone call. Television was black and white and grainy and you would rather be outside playing. You went to the library for reading material because there was no computers or internet. You played board games like Monopoly and Chess with your family and friends. You didn't have a dishwasher or a microwave oven. You had to light the pilot light on the stove and oven every time you used it. You used a typewriter for formal letters or handwrote most of your informal letters. You had a party line phone and had to share your number with a stranger.
Your milk and bread were delivered by the milkman and the Bakery Man. Door to door salesmen were appreciated and made a decent living. Just a few things I can think of.
