The world's space programmes have paid for themselves many times over in communications satellites, resource satellites to give advance warning of environmental disasters, weather satellites and they're about to pay off with manufacturing in microgravity. And now the pure scientific research element of the space programmes has given us a more plausible account of how we came to be here than any religious fairy stories, there's a real chance that the world's religions will lose their appeal, and we'll have less reason to kill each other. Before weather satellites, the first you knew of a tropical storm was when it hit you.

I believe the very best answer to this question is as follows: Nothing is ever static. There is always either expansion (growth)or contraction(demise). Which is better? I don't know about you, but I prefer expansion. This applies to Humanity of course. The Earth is finite, not infinite. Ultimately humans must expand out across the universe, or else go into decline. This is why we spend money on space. I think you should read the book "Entering Space" by Dr. Robert Zubrin, PhD. This book will explain it better than anything I can type in here.

To make plenty distinction to the waiting record at her well-being midsection could desire to fee $20,000,000 at that well-being midsection over a 12 months. and then what with regards to the hospitals in Brisbane, Adelaide, Ballarat etc? If the gap project evokes 2 hundred childrens around the rustic to get into technological information or in basic terms schoolwork in many circumstances, then the payoff 10 or 2 an prolonged time down the music is so plenty extra advantageous than $a hundred,000,000. they don't could desire to be scientists, medical doctors or dentists, stable motor mechanics and smarter farmers are extremely worth having too.

Trust me, there are far bigger wastes of government money than the space program. Any program that contributes to the advancment of science contributes to the advancement of humans in general.

What if no one ever looked out across the Atlantic and wondered if there was a faster way to India? Yes, millions of Native Americans would still be alive, but life would probably still suck for most people.

As homans we are in a never ending search to find where we came from and where can we go. As a collective it is in human nature that we migrate and explore. Add upon that the fact that we are intelligent beings, we are on a quest as a species to feed our intellect. Thus, mission such as the Hubble, Mars, titan, and beyond. Until we learn all of the mysteries of the universe we will never quit.
Plus it is a much better way of spending our resources than welfare or handouts.

Reasons to spend money on space program:

1.)much of the technology used by the space program finds its way into your home. i.e. GPS, anything with a satellite (duh), etc.

2.) The Mars missions could one day lead to human life on Mars.

3.) Important research is conducted in space

and 4.) There is an asteroid which many scientists estimate could hit the earth in 2029. (about .3% chance, according to some estimates, which is pretty high.) NASA is currently looking at a way to slightly divert the asteroid's path. (read the articles below)

What do you think we're doing with the money? Tossing it in a black hole? It costs billions to explore space because you have to design a spacecraft (employ scientists and engineers and everything that goes along with that), build it (more engineers, craftsman, buying parts and labor), launch it (rent the pad, pay for fuel, employ people to help) and maintain it (more scientists and engineers and satellite time). For every dollar NASA gets in it's budget, seven dollars are spent in the economy. It's a great investment, economically speaking, for our country.

Not to mention intellectual curiousity. Everybody can get something out of watching a robot traverse an alien planet. That's just cool.
