A fart is the cry of an imprisoned turd. I'm not sure if the actual fart knows where it came from, but the turd apparently does, if it's screaming to get out.

They should do. Sometimes they're cooped up for hours, days even. Then all of a sudden...freedom, but where do they go after release ? Are there underground fart clubs, where they meet?

Yes, most definitely. Not only do they know but they come about 14xs a day. So says a gastroenterlogist that was on Oprah. So eat lots of fibre and don't be afraid if you ever have to get scoped, it not so bad.
