That is the question of the day and I have finally realized what their game is,..... now hold on to your knickers; Why would fiscal conservatives, so opposed to spending, run up a historic debt and not even make excuses.....because they want to bring the country to the brink of bankruptcy, so they can destroy Social Security and every other social program in this country. Do not dismiss this out of hand, these people are cunning and ruthless, they have no conscience, and they have been trying to destroy these programs for 70 years. Secondly, they can blame the Democrats for the mess.

The article says a lot. But tell me, would you rather the GOP pass these bills intact, or would you rather have the Dems influence their form?
Remember the Prescription Drug Bill left huge copays for the middle class & also guaranteed record profits for pharmaceutical companies. What about the across the board Income Tax cut that gave a few dollars to the poor, billions to the rich, & the shaft to the middle class & an immediate gigantic budget deficit? How about the almost $1/2 trillion poured into the Iraq war & Halliburton's pocket. Consider that contract could have been split up so other companies could have bid on it & saved us $billions. The complete removal of the Estate Tax which benefits only millionaires? I am sick of one party rule & thankful the Dems wouldn't let these bills come up for a vote anyway..
By the way, your question is an oxymoron. Fiscal Conservatives don't spend like there is no tomorrow. This is one of the lies the neocons use to make themselves look better. Remember that the last time we had a balanced budget was with a Democratic President who used his veto pen on the most outrageous spending bills & a Republican Congress who did not have the numbers to override those vetos.

I posted a similar question a few minutes ago. What gets me is not whether its Dems or Repubs who finish these bills. My issue is that it was the RESPONSIBILITY of the current Congress to complete their work before they left office. All of these spending measures were supposed to have been done by the beginning of the fiscal year (October 1). I think it shows an incredible lack of responsibility to (A) not take care of the business you were elected to do, and (B) pass it off to people who, if you believe your own values, won't do it as well as YOU would.
If the Republicans had faith in their own values and loved the country as much as they say they do, wouldn't they want to do this work themselves?
And how crass and partisan is it to pass it off to the new Congress for the sole purpose of making them put off their own agenda in order to take care of THIS Congress' responsibilities?

Its not their fault they wont be the majority anymore. If the Democrats wanted the majority, they gotta take on the responsibilities. What, do people really think Democrats shouldn't have the responsibility of the job they were elected for? Hell, if thats the thinking, they'll be out in a coupla years. That draft thing aint helpin much either

Part affiliation hardly matters. The American Public loves pork, especially those who don't pay taxes but receive benefits.
They think there will be an endless and increasing benefit stream. For those of us who pay, it looks quite different. Tax payers have been outnumbered by those at the trough. The future is looking less bright each day.

If they have massive spending bills, they are not fiscal conservatives. They may have claimed to be while campaigning, but we all know not every campaign add is true.

That's the plan...make democrats try to fix it, and criticize any cuts/raised taxes that occur to regain power.
The biggest farce is setting the tax cuts to "sunset" in 2010. That made it more passable, but now if they DON'T extend it, it makes them look like their are putting in an unplanned tax raise. When in reality, the raise was already planned when the tax cut was put in place.
"Sunset" provisions are becoming more and more a trick, like getting us to invade Iraq on the idea it'll be $50 billion and 1 month, and then it becomes $1 trillion and 4+ years.
