If anything, Canada cares about Canadians more than its counterpart, no? so doesn't that make Canada the greater nation?

privatized health care = only those who can afford it deserve it;

Hence America doesn't care about those who will end up dying because of lack of money for heath complications.

arcticchick, I have heard so many Americans take pride in America as being the greatest nation on the face of Earth, when there are so many reasons against this assumption. (Lack of opportunities for students from poor families to pursue higher education, one from many)

I think most are just being ignorant about all the problems America encompasses.

Califlowerears, oh yeah. You think Katrina's aftermath would ever happen in Canada? NEVER. Do you think sick people would be put in cabs and sent to downtown because nobody cares for them (yes this happens; YAHOO! NEWS) Social equality? Of coarse USA is in the top 1%, but Canada tops USA.

I don't know who you talk to as many people I talk to wouldn't EVER want to live in US. I actually have a co-worker who has lived in US for all his life but has come back to Canada now and loves it here. Loves the culture, the equality, and everything that shapes Canada.

If warm weather is favored by high crime rates, then I want to be in the minority.

As an American, I have always considered Canada to be our sister country and dear & precious neighbors. As far as what America has that Canada does not have.... Every country has something different to offer than other countries. America and Canada have different cultures, landscapes, styles of government, and both are wonderful and have much to offer to each other. We are both children of England and have many good ties to each other, as we also have with our Australian brothers & sisters.

Wow. I was a little surprised by your question - I have known a lot of Canadians and have never felt them to be hateful or ethnocentric. Guess you've fixed that, haven't you?

What is so great about America? You don't live here.

And I know a lot of Americans who qualify for "socialized medicine" - you can keep it. What a friggin' mess.

Lack of opportunities? You have got to be kidding me. America IS the "land of opportunity" - even for poor people. Look at all the illegal immigrants who come here - why? OPPORTUNITY.

Lots of poor children are outstanding students in school because they make the choice to study hard. Then, when it comes time for college, they can possibly earn a scholarship. Want more choices? Fine - the poor can can look for grant money (lots of that available), or go to a community college to get the basics out of the way and then transfer to a state university and use student loans. There are ways out there - it just takes determination and ambition to find them sometimes.

Why should we American citizens care more about Canadians then Canadians do? That is a very silly argument for Canada being a better country. We care about the US citizens.

Us baby, America has us. The most giving and generous peoples of the world. You see, we are America and this is why it is so great.

America is not great because of it's government or that it is the most powerful nation on earth.

It's the people.
