Date of release is July of 2007 according to scholastic books. Harry won't die but two main characters will. Who they are is a well kept secret. As far as storyline, I think it will start with a hunt for Snape led by Harry.

No one knows anything about it, because Rowling hasn't set a release date, and she isn't willing to let people in on her plot. I know that Rowling refused to part with her script when the airport wanted it to be in her baggage. She insisted it would be carry-on, or she would have taken a boat. That's about all I know for the seventh book. There are guesses, such as R.A.B is Regulus Black, Dobby or Mundungus saved the locket - a possible Horcrux - from being tossed into a garbage bag, Peter Pettigrew will end up helping Harry, and the biggest guess of all: Harry's scar will be a Horcrux and he will have to die to save the world. I'm not so certain about that, but there you go.

i think someone dies, and jk rowling might kill harry b/c there was this interview where i think she said something about not wanting anyone else to continue the series. that makes sense, though, if you think about it even though i think i'd cry b/c just look at the godfather and how some other guy made a sequel to it...
