We recently purchased a Kenmore 70 pint. It was so noisy! It was placed in the basement on a concrete floor. We recently had a lightning strike and the surge took out the dehumidifer. Now we have to replace it and I want something more quiet.

All dehumidifiers have a fan and compressor. You should have called for service when it was new. It probably was a refrigerant line vibrating against the frame or cabinet and finally wore thru and caused refrigerant loss, not lightning damage. Don't get one any larger than you are sure you need. Don't discount Sears. There are probably four other brands available and probably made by the same company with a different name on it.

They all have a fan so, that would be the answer. When I buy something I demand to see it out of the box, I'm not buying a box. I want to see something like the operate or I tell them "I'll bring it right back" they usually comply. Tell them your previous problems and I'm sure they'll help you.
