The answer is -2. But I wouldn't be helping you if I didn't show you how to do it, would I? This is basic algebra. The first step is to get all the unknowns on the left side of the = sign. Do this by moving the +7 to the right. But when you do that, the sign (+) changes to a "-". So you have 6x = -5-7, which is "-12". Next, move the 6 to the right - so as to leave the "x" all by its onesy - which is -12 over +6 (-12/6). Divide the -12 by the 6, and - voila!! - you have -2!!!!! Write this out longhand yourself enough times so you memorize the steps. Having someone just give you the answer is cheating (right?), and it won't get you through a test (right?)!! The 2 basic rules demonstrated here are (1) any change made to one side of the equation must be made to the other, and (2) Multiplying (or dividing) unlike signs gives you a minus; with like signs gives you a plus (even if they're both minuses). You must be taking Freshman algebra. (When you get to Calculus in another 4 years, this will seem like a joke.) Hope this helps. Email me if I made this sound too complicated.

6x+7= -5
Subtracting 7 from both sides,
6x+7-7 = -5-7
6x = -12
Dividing both sides by 6,
6x/6= -12/6
x = -2

1. 6x + 7 = -5
2. Subtract seven from both sides. -- 6x + 7 - 7 = -5 - 7
3. You get 6x = -12.
4. Divide both sides by six to find x. -- (6x)/6 = (-12)/6
5. Answer = x= -2.
x= - 2

6x + 7 = 5
6x + 7 - 7 = - 5 - 7
6x = - 12
6x/6 = - 12 / 6
x = - 2
The answer is x = - 2
Insert the x value into the equation.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Check
6x + 7 = - 5
6( - 2) + 7 = - 5
- 12 + 7 = -5
- 5 = - 5

Add -7 on both sides
6x + 7 - 7 = - 5 - 7
6x = -12
Mutiply by 1/6 on both sides
6x / 6 = -12 / 6
Final Result
x = -2
