8x/3-5=-10
1. Subtract the -5 from the 3 so you have
8x/-2=-10
2. You can reduce the fraction on the left side of the equation
since 8 can be divided by 2, which gives you
-4x=-10
3. Divide each side by -4 to get the x by itself, you shold get
x=-10/-4
4. Two negatives equal a positive so it ends up as
x=2.5
5. Plug the 2.5 back into the equation in place of x and the
equation should be correct.
8*2.5/3-5=-10
8* 2.5=20 so now you have
20/3-5=-10
subtract the bottom part of the fraction
3-5=-2 so now the equation looks like this
20/-2=-10
20 divided -2 =-10 so the equation reads
-10=-10 which is correct so X=2.5

So the problem is 8x/3-5=-10
To solve for x here are the steps:
8x/3-5=-10 Divide (3-5) from both sides
8x=-10(3-5) Distribute(multiply) -10 to both 3 and-5
8x=-30+50 Subtract 30 from 50
8x=20 Divide 8 from both sides
x = 2.5 Here's your anwser!

8X / 3-5 = -10
Reduce the denominator on the left side (3 - 5 = -2)
8X / -2 = -10
Multiply both sides by -2,
then 8X = 20, because -2 X -10 = 20 (now a positive number because two negatives equal a positive)
Then divide both sides by 8
X = 20/8, or 2.5
Answer = 2.5

it depends on what the origonal equation was (that is why you have so many different answers on here) If the 8x was divided by 3 and then you subtract 5 use #2, but if the 8x was divided by 3-5 (which equals -2) you use #1
if it is:
#1 (8x) / (3-5) = -10
or
#2 [(8x) / 3] -5
for #1 you will need to multiply -10 by (3-5) which equals 20. then divide 20 by 8 in which case x = 5/2 or 2.5
for#2 you will need to add 5 to -10 which equals -5. Then multiply by 3 which equals -15 and then divide by 8, in which case x = -15/8
best of luck

You're going to have to move everything so that the X stands alone in one side...
8x/3-5=-10 add 5 to both sides... this will cancel the -5 on the left and convert the -10 to -5 on the right side
8x/3=-5 multiple by 3 on both sides... this will cancel the division by 3 on the left side and you'll have to multiply 3 times -5 on the right side
8x=-15 now you will have to devide by 8 both sides to cancel out the multiplication on the left side...
x= -15/8 or x= -1.875

x is the unknown quantity, you have to find the value of x.
8x/3 -5 = -10
Adding 5 on both sides,
8x/3 -5 +5 = -10+5
8x/3 = -5
Multiplying both sides by 3,
8x/3 * 3 = -5 *3
8x = -15
Dividing both sides by 8,
8x/8 = -15/8
x = -15/8

Original equation:
8x / 3 - 5 = -10
Add 5 to both sides:
8x / 3 = -5
Multiply both sides by 3:
8x = -15
Divide both sides by 8:
x = -15/8
x = -1 7/8

Okay, snagelfritz.. I (WOULD) owe you a beer... (except YOUR answer of 8 7/8 is WRONGO! Maybe it's a typo?)

The correct answer is 15/8
Solved thusly
(8/3 * X) - 5 = -10
(8/3 * X) = -5
X = -5/(8/3)
x = (-5*3)/8
x = -15/8
Hey! I'm smart enough to know when to admit when I'm wrong.

ok well u have to work out the problem backwards. so first u would take -10 plus 5. (-10 + 5 = -5) then u take -5 cuz thats ur answer and multiply it by 3. ( -5 * 3 = -15) so thenu take -15 and subtract 8 which gives u -23. so -23 is the value of x. then try it 8 x's -23/3-5= -10 and theres ur answer.
