Each baby is different and the frequency of bowel movements can vary from day to day as well. Some babies have a bowel movement every time they are fed while some can go 2 or more days between. Babies systems go through lots of changes during the first weeks of life. Eventually you will begin to notice what is "normal" for your baby. My youngest had the normal meconium bowel movements in the hospital and then didn't have another one until she was 10 days old. I had her into the doctor 3 different times to check for an obstruction, but there wasn't one. Because she was a sleepy baby, she didn't eat much so her doctor said that she was most likely eating only what she needed to sustain herself with not much leftover for waste. I ended up having to wake her to eat every 3 hours although at night I could let her sleep as long as she wanted (she was an amazing baby and slept 8 or more hours every night from birth). She is now 9, eats sparingly, and only has a bowel movement every 2-3 days, which is perfectly normal for her.

Many breastfed newborns have a BM after/during each feeding.
First few days:
In the early days, baby typically has one dirty diaper for each day of life (1 on day one, 2 on day two...). After day 4, stools should be yellow and baby should have at least 3-4 stools daily that are the size of a US quarter (2.5 cm) or larger. Some babies stool every time they nurse, or even more often--this is normal, too. The normal stool of a breastfed baby is loose (soft to runny) and may be seedy or curdy.
Weeks 2-6 -
Expect 3-4+ stools daily that are the size of a US quarter (2.5 cm) or larger. Some babies stool every time they nurse, or even more often--this is normal, too. The normal stool of a breastfed baby is yellow and loose (soft to runny) and may be seedy or curdy. After 4 - 6 weeks, some babies stool less frequently, with stools as infrequent as one every 7-10 days. As long as baby is gaining well, this is normal.
