I say NO. Death penalty is carried out because people want revenge. While I respect that feeling, it's not justice.

Death penalty, in my opinion makes a society less advanced.

Winemkr, just because people deserve to die doesn't mean they should. Good people should be merciful, so that they're different from the killers.

And to people who say "what if somebody killed somebody you love" - i say, "what if somebody you love killed somebody?"

I say YES. Why should my tax dollars go to keep some low life alive. With free medical, three meals a day, dental, better than some hard working people get. I don't care what you call it, maybe it is revenge.

I don't believe in the death penalty.2 wrongs don't make a right.Besides, they say an average of 1 out of 10 people on Death Row are innocent.

I would look at every case individually and if they are 100% certain they have the right creep who did the crime, then I am not against it. But I know innocent people have been on death row and that's not good:( Also, giving the death penalty to someone who has mental retardation or whatnot, I am against that because they lack the cognition to know what they did.

We have a strong death penalty in the "BUSH" states, Texas and Florida. We are the only supposed advanced country who still kills people this way.
I don't feel sorry for the prisoners killed in some cases, but too many have been saved using DNA after years of incarsaration.
That should make you wonder how many were killed while they were innocent

I agree, no death penalty, but life in prison sure. If they break out, I admire their ambition. Justice is the most negligible term in the english language. Justice to one person is killing someone who does not believe what they believe, while justice to another person is starting a war that kills multiple people simply to prove a point. I don't believe anyone's definition of "Justice" holds any ground. Good and Evil in and of themselves are terms based from human perspective, but law is bent around them. Is a person that steals for food because they have none bad? are they wrong? After all they would've died without it.. It's questionable.

So let me get this straight. If I break into your parent's home and find them sleeping in their bed, and they suddenly wake up and try to call for help, and I decide to take them out because they have seen my face. I should not get the death penalty?

How about if I terminated them the way OJ Simpson did, just out of pure rage, with no regard what so ever of the consequences to your parents, there children, friends coworkers, community, or myself.

There is such a thing as cause and effect.

No, except for the most awful of criminals. Tim McVeih deserved the death penalty. So would Osama Bin Laden.

Other then that, the death penalty should not be used because of the chance, no matter how slight, that an innocent person will get executed. You can free an innocent person from prison, but you can't bring them back from the dead.

Bump.

No to the death penalty in my opinion. Having said that, I feel no remorse to those who do receive the death penalty though. So does that make me a hypocrite? Hmm...

When I was a child, I thought the same way as you do.
But now, I realize that when a child killer is put to death, he will never kill another child.
You are still just a kid. But if you were an adult and had a child raped and murdered, you'd understand.
Democrats want to let cold blooded killers out of prison, but force them to take "Sensitivity Classes".
