All people are created equal

To me it's the foundation, if a person doesn't believe everyone is equal then they aren't going to believe the other three.

My answer is #4. Thomas Jefferson said in the Declaration:

".... That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, >>>deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."<<<

Long after Jefferson had retired from the presidency, in the year 1820, Jefferson wrote a letter to a man and said, "I know of no safe repository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves."

Given the way that the U.S. Supreme Court has been behaving for the last 100 years, I would not and I DO not trust that body to continue defining "equality" or "liberty" (basic rights) any way they feel like. Because that IS all that the Court is doing -- they define equality and liberty any way THEY feel like! It is just plain sophistry, and I hate it.

The authority of the legislatures comes from the people who elect the legislatures and from the people who ratified: 1) the U.S. Constitution, and 2) each state constitution.

#4 because not all people are created equal. Some have talents of one type, while others are better at other things. Some have more material items at birth. People posess basic rights, but these rights are defined by the people that control the government. Government cannot exist with out people. Its purpose is defined by what those people will tolerate.

The single one that is most important to me is, all people possess certain basic rights. Marriage to me is a certain basic right that should not be denied to anyone not even homosexuals. Sadly, not everyone agrees with me on that point.

However I believe the purpose of the government is to protect the nation and protect the weak of its people. To help those who are helpless.
