when depressed, the accelerator pedal sometime sticks, the car starts racing away, and I have to put the car in neutral, jam on the brake, the car comes to a halt, the engine revving, and I allow the pedal to return to the rest position on its own( usually takes a few seconds) very frightening, and the dealers have found nothing wrong with the car. It has happened 8 times in the last 6 weeks.

I have 4 of my friends having P307, none had this problem. It may be the floor protection u r using, it can hold down the pedal. Try driving without floor mat. You can also lubrify the pedal's support from inside and from engine side. It is clearly not an electronic problem, it's a mechanical fault on the pedal level.
Also check the acceleration cable between pedal and engine (it goes to the injection part above the engine).
