Look at all of the people who are swayed by a candidate's stand on abortion. For 30 years GOP candidates have been able to totally play pro-lifers for fools. I could care less about pro-life or pro-choice, but I really do care about issue that effect our country, like wars, deficits, immigration, taxes, corruption and incumbancy. Seriously, why do Americans have to care about this no movement issue.

I am not ignorant to the facts surrounding the court case and what has transpired since abortion was legalized. I am, however, sickened at the clout this issue has in the political discourse of this country.

I also want to know how a group can be "pro-life" yet support war? The hypocrisy disgusts me. I can respect people who are strongly and vocally anti-abortion and anti-war because they are consistent in their beliefs.

I couldn't agree with you more. Abortion & gay marriage
should be the least of this government's worrys.
Each individual has their beliefs & those decisions should
be personal, not for the gov. to stick their noses in.

I think it is amazing that anyone would assert that abortion is a "no movement issue."

Roe v. Wade, handed down in 1973, was decided by the Court by a margin of 7 to 2. By now, the amount of support for that precedent is probably only 5 to 4. Justice J.P. Stevens is 86 years old and will most likely be the next person to leave the Court, probably before Jan. 2009, which means that Bush will get to replace Stevens. And when that happens, then there will probably not even be a majority on the Court any more who still respect the Roe decision. As they shouldn't.

What the Supreme Court giveth, the Supreme Court can taketh away.

And speaking of hypocrisy,

You're somewhat ignorant to think this is a "no movement" issue. The liberals are trying to push when abortion should be legal further into the pregnancy and the conservatives are pushing back. Further, I'm not sure why you think the health of children and families is a non-issue. I'm not outspoken one way or the other either, but it is a passionate and real issue. The liberals think it's a fundamental right, the conservatives don't. Anyway, life has to be one of the most important issues we can discuss, that's why our country was established under the principle of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

Roe v Wade took the power from the states to legislate abortion and made it a Federal protected right, under certain circumstances, nothing more, nothing less

Yes, the GOP probably thanks the Supreme Court that they made abortion legal. They get a lot of votes on that issue alone. If abortion wasn't legal, they wouldn't be in power.

i agree with you. but people don't realize that even if abortion is not legal, women will just find other more dangerous ways to terminate pregnancies. a candidates position on this one issue is really irrelevant to me, and i'm a woman.

it just proofs american polotics are flawed.
the two party sytem doesn't work.
i don't give a **** either. i don't want to vote for somebody who really concerns him or her self with this issue, but i'm forced too.
i think we need a 5 party system.
