I would like two anwers 1. if the person was saying it to be mean
2. if the person was saying it jokingly.
If someone called me white trash, cracker... uh.. trailor park queen.. lol I dont know what else. I wouldnt care either way. Even if they meant it meanly. Im proud of who I am and they would not bother me because I would know the truth. What do you guys think?

I think the big mistake people make is to jump to conclusions about racism too quickly. Though it is alive and well, just because someone uses the derogatory term trailer trash, ******, towel head, etc this does not immediately make the person a racist. What is the first thing you do when someone pisses you off? You pick a trait about them and then make a nasty remark. IE a fat woman cuts you off while driving. What do you do? You call her a fat *** or a pig. If a blonde cuts you off you call her a stupid *** blonde or something. When I lived in the UK I would hear people make comments about the stupid yanks or the dumb *** frogs. So, if an african american cuts you off you'll probably shout out something like dumb ******. This does not, in itself, make the person a racist, this makes them a pissed off human and its a trait that all of us have. Racism can be determined in how a person treats another person normally. How they treat a complete stranger of a different race or religion, in there day to day lives. Its how they speak to them and treat them.

Not so sure, if they do not bother you, you are sur as hell going into it. Anyway I hope you are as confident as you say, when people come out with that trash I tune out and do not even look at them, they are very insecure people who want attention. My Nana once do not open your mouth unless you have some thing intelligent to say

I am sensitive, so I would actually be hurt by it, if they wern't joking. I never had anyone say any racial slurs to me as a joke. I don't know how I would react to that one. But I still believe that all people are not racist until they prove themselves otherwise.

My reaction would be the same either way - I'd tilt my head to the side and say 'hmm?'
Then I'd ask them what they meant, and then I'd ask them why they said that, and what prompted them to say it, and so on and so forth. They'd get so sick of answering questions they'd probably never insult me again, for fear of having to answer my version of 21 questions.

As long as they lay no hand on me, I usually just snort and walk away. If I'm in a really good mood I'll point at them and laugh.

isn't weird that its fine to use racial epithets against whites these days, but not at all cool towards anyone else?
