I'm wondering if anyone can give me a definite answer. I am pregnant, and the 1st day of my last period was Oct. 15th, 5 weeks from yesterday, so I thought I was 5 weeks along in the pregnancy. I haven't met with my Obgyn yet, but I did meet with my primary care doctor. She told me I am only 3 weeks along, because it goes from the time that you conceived. Does anyone know the time frame to tell how many weeks I am???

Your doctor p robably said this because she is not counting the 2 weeks during conception. If you go to pregnancyweekly.com or get the book this will explain it. You are really by ob/gyn terms 5 weeks.

Congratulations on your pregnancy,
Going from your period is how pregnancy is calculated as its very unpredictable to know exactly when you conceived as its not the same for every women. This is the reason pregnancy is classed as 40 weeks from your last period. The best result is going by ultrasound as it will measure the baby but they will average the due date from the ultrasound and your last period if known.
This is only an estimate:
Estimated Conception: October, 25th 2006
Estimated Due Date: July, 22nd 2007
Estimated fetal age: 5 weeks, 2 days.
The baby would be only approximately 3 weeks from conception but pregnancy is normally calculated by the firs day of your last period. It depends on how your doctor has been taught to calculate pregnancy, if you go to different doctors then you will get different dates, I went to my doctor and he said my due date was on the 28th Feb, my midwife said 3rd March and the ultrasound said around the 8th March. It averages out to the 3rd of March. Good luck and best wishes.

You are 5 weeks, pregnancy starts from the date of your last period, even though you don't concieve untill 2 weeks later. Your baby is 3 weeks old, but when you are talking about pregnancy stuff, you would be 5 weeks along.

well yes and no, the baby is only 3 weeks but the pregnancy is 5 weeks ( you deliver at 40) I had the same question when I was preg. I have no clue why it works that way but it does! Go on a pregnancy web page and get a calander and it will tell you EXACTLY how far along you are.
Good Luck with the preg.

Its from the 1st date of your last period. Add 280 days and that should be your due date (based on a 28 day cycle). The gestational age is 3 weeks but you are 5 wks pregnant. Dont know why they do it this way but they do... anyways, Congrats on your pregnancy!!!!!!

I have always counted from the day of conception, but that was because I had never had a regular period, so I could not go by that. I had always been told to count from the 1st day of your last period, but how when I did not have one. Good luck, do not panic and have fun! Your gonna be a mommy!

Its usually estimated from the first day of your last period. In which case you are 5 weeks.

i was told you go from the first day of your last period and when you get your first ultra sound that's when they can tell you exactly but then again they do stuff that up as well until proved otherwise you can say you are 5 weeks.
