Reno averages around 4.5" of snow per month in December and January, but has gotten as much as 16" in a single December day. However, the high is normally around 45-50 in December and January, so it doesn't stay for weeks like it does in the midwest.

Does it ever! I was there in September and it snow-showered over night. Quite a shock for a boy who lives in San Diego... The altitude makes it a prime snow area... more so in (higher altitude) Tahoe.
