I had a baby in August... got an IUD 5 weeks ago... now I feel like there are air bubbles in my vagina. I have also been bleeding for the past 3 weeks like I have a long period, and I haven't had sex since the baby was born. Is something wrong? BTW, I have a gyn appointment in 6 days.

Which IUD do you have? Its very normal to have abnormal bleeding after the insertion of your IUD. It may take 3 months for your body to get back on track. I would get it checked out at your appointment. Have you tried feeling for your strings? what makes you think it has fallen out. You should feel a knot at the top of your strings right before your cervix. If you feel that knot then the IUD is in place if you dont then it has gone further in your uterus and possibly perforation but you would be in pain and would have a hard time moving in certain positions
Is the bleeding spotting or are you having to change your pad every 2 hours?

You could have an IUD caught somewhere- or it may just have really irritated things. I would suggest you probably not wait for 6 days to have it checked out, and try to get in sooner. It could simply be your system out of whack after giving birth, and trying to reset things, a hormonal imbalance, or any number of other things. You should be able to feel the tip end of the IUD string just at the mouth of the cervix, yucky thought I know, but that will tell you if it's at least in the vicinity of where it should be. A doctor can tell with an exam, with a quick look, but that's the only option you have. Still, three weeks can drag you down pretty quickly and is not normal. Sorry I can't help you more, but GYN problems really aren't solvable over the web. You need to see the doctor, and it should really be in the next few days- not 6.

This is so crazy that you posted this yesterday. I am staring at my iud right now! I had it in for 7 months, no problem. Last month I got my first period since I gave birth because I was breastfeeding. Yesterday I had some spotting, mild cramping and discharge went to check my iud. The strings were really long and I could feel the plastic coming out of my cervix. I called a midwife last night and spoke with her and she told me that if I could feel the plastic that I had to get it removed and I was going to go today. I just got back from a really long walk, went to pee and checked it and it was sticking out even farther so I just gently pulled and it came right out!!! I don't think this is supposed to happen but maybe because my periods returned it shifted around in there and came down the cervical canal. I'm calling my midwife tomorrow to see what to do. Mine was the copper paraguad, not Mirena.

I can't imagine the thing falling out. It's about an inch by an inch and your os, the hole in your cervix, is really small...even after having a baby. It could be out of place, though. Only your doctor will be able to tell you.
