There are Bio based smell destroyers. They consist of bacteria and enzymes that break down the smells. I'm not sure where they are available to the public, but you may look for a cleaning supply store . A quick spray in the area will work well. If not, buy a pumpkin pie scented candle and keep it lit all day.

It possibly could be in a heating duct. I don't have any idea how it got there but one day I heard all kinds of scratching that sounded like it was coming from the furnace. I looked all around because I didn't see anyway anything could get in heating ducts. I finally called a contractor to check (and clean) the ducts and there was a live squirrel in it. The duct guy couldn't figure it out either. We got the squirrel out and cleaned the ducts and that was that. If you can't find anyplace else where it could be coming from you might want to have them checked. Luckily my "rat with a fuzzy tail" wasn't dead.

Don't really know the answer, but you better find that dead sucker, 'cause comes summer season you'll be having a lotta fun with at least 100 flies swarming around, and you wonder why.
