running Windows XP. No disk furnished with shipment and no disk was
enclosed. What do I need to do to get the computer up and running?

you need a windows disc. something has happened to you system files on the HD, it might jsut be a cable came out though, have a check when the computer is turned off.

Open up the case. Disconect the IDE and the power cables. Then reconnect them again and give it a try.

Eject the floppy disk from its drive. Otherwise download from the following site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?pocId=&freetext=windows%20xp%20boot&DisplayLang=en (you will need to choose your OS)

If it has a floppy drive, check if there is a disk it in.
Take out the disk, if there is one.

Your hard drive is prob bad.
If you have a bootable floppy try booting from it.

If the boot is sucessful ( I suspect it will be) then your hard drive has gone south on you.

make sure you don't have anything in the floppy, or CD-ROM or a FLASH drive plugged in.

xcheck the floopy drive to see if they left something in there
