I don't know if this counts, since it's a TV show, but the Walton's takes place in the Great Depression. Of particular interest is a two part episode called "The Conflict" that was a very well done story about the displacement of mountain people to build a road and park on their land. While the TV show may be fictional, it was based on fact. People did have their land taken by the government during the rebuilding projects.
