You will need to find a product called toner. Basically it is transparent paint.... but I can tell you that you probably won't find it in a spray can. Your best bet would be from one of 2 companies- Behlens or Mohawk.

Incidentally, the posting above about using "auto paint" is half right...many builders use acrylic lacquer for finishing a guitar, but not necessarily from DuPont. In the distant past, just as car companies did, guitar factories used nitrocellulose lacquer as well, some still do, but enamel has never been utilized as a mainstay of guitar finishing.

I suggest that you buy some black water based stain, thin it out a lot, then stain the body before applying the clear coats. This is not really the best way to do it but one of the only ways if you don't have a spray system.

Go to an auto paint supply store, car paint is what guitars have ALWAYS been painted with ... From Du Pont .
