Check your computer for virus, take a look at your old email and see if anything that looks like it was from ebay is real or not.

(you must do a full virus scan soon as possible)
here is a free full system scan that is very good:
http://usa.kaspersky.com/services/free-virus-scanner.php

how they found it:
ebay looks for strange stuff just like your credit card does.

protect your self:
use anti phishing software, keep antivirus and firewalls up to date as well as keeping windows up to date.

also do what g4acre said.

If you received an email about this be careful. In some/most instances it's a scam. They email you to say that someone has hacked your account then they ask for your i.d, and pass to get further info. Call eBay services.

if you got an email telling you this it is a scam. dont answer the email and send it to spoof@ebay.com and spoof@paypal.com they will trace it down and shut down the pricks & prosucute if can. and you can go to ebay to check your messages and if was sent by them you will have the same email in your inbox at ebay.then you need to start changing password & contacting your bank & credit cards.

it probably hasn't been. these scams have been going on for ages. what they want is for you to give them your id while they "investigate" then it really will be stolen.
