outlook express question?

Question

Is there a way to set Outlook Express to notify me when new mail arrives if the program itself isn't open and minimized? Or must I open and minimize OX and let it run in the background?

I know of no other way. I keep mine minimized on task bar while on the net.

How to Receive Notification When E-mail Arrives

Instructions
STEP 1: Open Outlook Express.
STEP 2: Go to the Tools menu.
STEP 3: Click on Options.
STEP 4: Make sure the General tab is selected.
STEP 5: Check the "Play sound for new messages" box to hear when you have a new message.
STEP 6: Check the "Send and receive messages at startup" box to automatically check for new messages each time you start your e-mail program.
STEP 7: Check the "Check for new messages" box and then select the time intervals at which you want the e-mail program to automatically check for mail.
STEP 8: Click OK.

To receive audio notification of new messages:
On the Tools menu, click Options.
On the General tab, select the Play sound when new messages arrive check box.
Guess you need not open OE.

There is a free program called "mailwasher" which roadrunner used to recommend. What I like about it is that it keeps mail ON THE SERVER and lets you deal with it before it hits your computer. You can bounce it, blacklist it, delete it, whatever - without it reaching your computer. I love it. It runs in the background and flashes when you get an e-mail.

I don't even use express unless I have to.
