I found that 80% of visitiors to my web site tend to leave before my page loads! It's loading time is bween 5 and 6 sec

I would wait if it was important, but thats still too slow for a homepage to load.
Your homepage should be up and on the screen. Ditch everything on there that isn't essential to the content or design. Simplify it.
Then optimise all of your graphics and slice or interlace them. Be ruthless - your homepage either sells your site or puts people off.
If the seperate elements load one by one its better than waiting for a Flash screen to load.

Statistically you have 4 seconds, no matter what people say they get frustrated by a second, we live in an on demand culture now. I'd get rid of any design element that isn't essential to speed it up to see if there is any change. You can always stick it back once you have shown people what they can get.

If it's something I'm interested in, then I would wait. What's the big deal with 5/6 seconds? None for me.

Boy talk about being in a rush!.... 5-6 sec is not slow! Are you sure it is not just being crawled by search sites?

Sounds like your computer is running slow or your hard drive is on the way out. Take your computer to a local store or computer centre and get a PC health checkup.

Since you haven't put your site up here, we can't judge whether it's fast or slow. I am an impatient person, so if I found it was taking time, I wouldn't wait.
