Demographics, white folks are largest share of the market, they watch news, buy papers in larger numbers, have a larger share of the disposable income that attracts advertisers. Cute white girl gets murdered in Aruba the media goes ape____ because its a sexy crime and will attract viewers and readers. Meanwhile dozens more are murdered every day who aren't covered as extensively because they are minorities, or not cute, or are poor. Its the way of the free market, everyone is guilty of their part in it. Think not? Look at Jon Benet Ramsey, beauty queen child, killed, think of all the media attention on one child, and how many other children have died since who got barely a word said of their death. You can complain to the media, but they go where the consummer tells them to go and we go to the story that is most ENTERTAINING and SEXY to us.

But why is this posted in LGBT?

I agree with Clair J. It's a proven fact that tragedies involving whites receive far more attention, quicker, and longer. But it also has to do with having money. If you're considered to come from a wealthy prominent family, the media will jump on it quicker. Blacks and other races are a minority, so when caucasians see themselves in the other cases, it's as though they tend to be more sympathethic. Ebony magazine did an article on this very topic. They listed Afro American female stories I had never heard of.

But I wouldn't say that if it is a not so quite pretty black girl no one cares. I think she could look like Halle Berry, and it still may draw so much attention. It's the fact of money=power=results. If you have a caring heart regardless of what they look like, that's too be humane.

I see a lot of Christian ministers helping all races of children. Because they have a godly light in them. They do not care what the children, men, women look like. All they care about is how they can help.

I think the death of any child is a tragedy because I have three children and I would feel the pain of the parents. All parents can relate to that. I think it is sad when the libral media uses its on racist bias to decide what is concidered sexy news and thrust that in our faces.

Are you homosexual or bisexual or maybe transgendered? Why is this in the GLBT section?

I don't believe that is necessarily so true. we recently had a college girl who was black that had been missing for a month or better and ended up her body was found in Georgia and she was attending college in Illinois. The point here is that it was on the news every night until they found her, and yes they caught the person who was liable for her murder. I believe it really depends on the community.

Because minorities have been treated like crap for years. It's like expecting a loaf of Wonder Bread to be the best bread you've ever tasted...

im not racist and i dont have this view, but honestly we live in a white american world. most people in my town think that being rich, white, and powerful is the most important thing. so naturally when a black person goes through the same expierence as a white person the white person will recive more sympathy.

I would care...And I would care regardless of races or gender. A tragedy is still a tragedy no matter who it befalls.
