I love my saxophone, and I love to play it. I often listen to recordings of the songs we're doing in my School's Concert Band, and I have 3 music books that my mom got. I also do well in band, but do you think it's kinda weird that I love instrumental music so much? I dont seirously want to be called a "Band Geek."

No, your interests are in music - I think that is wonderful. Keep up your obsession / passion. It will bring you many hours of pleasure and satisfaction.
I personally play a stringed instrument. I spend a lot of hours and have since I was a teen. I have serenaded cows, chickens and hogs while on the farm. I have irritated family members, but through it all, I wouldn't change my musical life. Am I a professional? No, but I can play a mean banjo, and it's something that a lot of people can't do. Besides, I enjoy it, too. Keep up the good work, and let the hecklers go to thunder.

You're not obsessive. You're in love with music and you have a need to express yourself.

Who cares if you get called a band geek? You do what you LOVE, NOT what other people tell you you are. If you don't take advice, you'll regret it someday.

(Don't read any futher if you don't want to be offended my friends). My friends and I were the worlds biggest band geeks and we wore it like a badge of honor. Now, we're all successful upper middle class types and all the dumb jocks and cheerleaders are still living in the same little town working at the carwash and getting fat.

Not at all. It's called having a passion. Listening to songs that you will soon play is a good way to learn how they should sound, and music books can help improve your technique. Practicing does, too. You aren't obsessive. Besides, this interest may help lead you to a career in music, which would be nice.

No, it's absolutely not weird and you shouldn't concern yourself with being a "band geek." You have a passion for music and you should never, ever feel self-conscious about it. Spend as much time and energy as you want pursuing your musical interests. Many people aren't passionate about things like that and you should consider yourself fortunate you've found something you love so much.

Honey, I'm the same way (I play flute). It's not weird, it makes you smarter than everyone else. If sax is your passion, then forget what everyone else says. Live the life the way you want and if losers wanna call you a Band Geek, let them. You'll be the one getting scholarships and doing something in life. They'll just be sitting on their asses being miserable.

Any self-respecting band kid knows that =]

It's GREAT!!!

It's not weird, dorky, or "geek" ish (look up the original
meaning of the word "geek" and you'll get a laugh)

So many people aren't into music, and if you truly have a passion for it (which it seems you do :]) you should listen and play as much as your heart desires :)

No, i don't think you are obsessive. You are just very interested in instrumental music. Don't let anyone call you a "band geek", and don't listen to them when they do. Stay focused on what you like. Go your own way, I think people who are truly themselves are the best.

You're not obsessive. It's great to have something you enjoy! A lot of kids don't have anything to do with their time. I think it's awesome, keep practicing and get better!!!! Good luck to you.

And also, don't worry about the fools if they say you're a band geek. It's their stupidity.

tell me a story about "this one time at band camp" and I promise not to call you a band geek.... ;-)

Seriously... FWIW, I grew up listening to megadeth, metallica, overkill, slayer and a ton of other metal bands. Now I listen to Pink Floyd, Yani, Enya, Jazz & my favorite...Blues.

Sweety, you listen to what ever makes you happy...don't worry what people think of you while in school... You'll find when you get out of high school, people start liking you for who you are and not so much for what you wear or listen to...

Who cares what people call you? I'm sure they don't give a crap that you like band. Besides, it's good that you found something you love to do. If more people had that, then they wouldn't be causing so much trouble on the streets what with gang violence and all that unnecessary sh*t.
