1) m=3600 b=41400 when x = 7 (1987)
y=3600x+b
41400=3600(7)+b
41400= 25200 + b
b = 16200
y = 3600x + 16200 <--answer

2) n/"x"=8, m/"y"=30 slope/"m"=2

30=2*8+b
30=16+b
b = 14
m = 2n + 14

First question:

Start with:
y = 3600x + c

Use info for 1987 to find c:
41400 = 3600(1987 - 1980) + c
c = 16200

So formula is:
y = 3600x + 16200

Second question:

Start with:
n = 2m + c

Use info for 8 weeks at 30 miles to find c:
30 = 2(8) + c
c = 14

So equation is:
n = 2m + 14
